About The Pawtastics
Through “The Pawtastics”, our goal is to create a unique, event-based therapy dog program. This outreach will involve talented, trick-trained certified therapy dog teams visiting hospitals, nursing homes, children's camps, and other facilities housing individuals who can benefit from interacting with a therapy dog. These therapy dog teams that will consist of canine actors and influencers, and combine traditional comfort therapy with a fun, entertaining performance. The Pawtastics mission is to bring joy, smiles and laughter to those who need it most.
The Pawtastics program will be special event-based, rather than regularly scheduled, to allow volunteer teams to participate who might otherwise not have the time in their schedule for the significant time commitment other therapy dog organizations may require. We hope this allows a younger demographic of volunteers to get involved and expose more people to therapy dog training and volunteering, with a unique and entertaining level of quality therapy to those who can benefit from it.
The Preston's Planet Foundation, Inc. seeks to recruit many rescue dogs to become The Pawtastics, to showcase the power of dog training to help dogs thrive and be able to provide therapy and comfort. Both founding dogs for The Pawtastics, Penelope Supafly and Delilah Jane Sassafras, were rescued from the streets of Los Angeles. Thus, the Organization seeks to highlight how rescue dogs can be trained as therapy dogs. The Organization has already had a few therapy dog teams volunteer at a kids camp called Dream Street, and most of the dogs who participated in that program were rescue dogs. By involving younger volunteers and having event-based therapy dog outreach programs, the organization will spread the message celebrating rescue dogs potential to become therapy dogs and showcase the quality of therapy they can provide.
